We recommend taking the tour in the morning. It's a beautiful time to enjoy the river, with more opportunities to spot tropical birds and hear howler monkeys in the forest.
Tour description
Your adventure begins in Don Diego with an easy walk along a nature trail, accompanied by a local guide. You can choose between a short 5-minute walk or a 25-minute route before reaching the starting point of your tubing adventure.
Once at the river, you'll receive your inflatable tube and a few simple instructions before floating down the calm waters of the Don Diego River. Along the way, take in the beautiful scenery of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and keep an eye out for local wildlife, including resident and migratory birds, howler monkeys, and lush tropical vegetation, with some trees reaching up to 40 meters tall.
The river journey ends at one of the most beautiful spots along the route: where the Don Diego River meets the Caribbean Sea. Here, you'll discover a pristine, secluded beach, perfect for swimming, taking photos, strolling along the soft sandy stretch that separates the river from the sea, or simply relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of the Sierra Nevada's snow-capped peaks in the distance.
To finish the experience, we'll take a 15-minute motorboat ride back to Don Diego.

How to get to Don Diego
Don Diego is located at kilometer 56 on the Santa Marta–Palomino road, along the Troncal del Caribe highway, the same road that leads to Tayrona National Park.
You can drive your own car, and free parking is available. We can also arrange private transportation for you, with rates depending on your location and the number of passengers.
Getting here by public transportation is easy and affordable.
Local buses leave Santa Marta approximately every 20 minutes throughout the day and can drop you off right at the entrance to Don Diego village, where one of our local guides will be waiting to welcome you.
The buses are operated by Cootransoriente and can be boarded at the Santa Marta Public Market or Buenavista Shopping Mall.
If you're staying near Tayrona National Park, Guachaca, Buritaca, or Palomino, you can also catch a local bus along the main highway.
